Cash Transfer Programme: The Oyo Experience

The best way to describe our attempts at registering vulnerable people for the Cash Transfer Program in Oyo State is by calling it a race against time. We had 5 days within which to register almost 1000 vulnerable people across 3 local Government Areas. Now, this seems easy enough but the criteria we had been given by the International Federation of the Red Cross were stringent.

Nigerian Red Cross Mobilizes Funds for Turkey/Syrian Earthquake Relief and Rehabilitation

The Nigerian Red Cross society (NRCS) was established by an Act of Parliament in 1960 as an auxiliary to the Government in Humanitarian Services. The Act empowers the Society to support the Government in response to disasters, emergencies in the implementation of the  Geneva convention and its additional protocols which the Government of the Federation has acceded to. In 1961, following the official recognition by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent, Nigerian Red Cross Society became 86th member Nation of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

“Like hundreds of thousands of other people in South-Eastern Türkey I was fast asleep when the world started to shake. The floor and the walls were shaking, bending, and as we ran down the three floors to the street our only thought was to get far, far away from buildings. “These are the exact words of a survivor of what is now called the worst Earthquake in Turkey’s history.

  • The Argument for Cash Transfer

    The Argument for Cash Transfer

An old saying goes, ‘You can never have too much money’. Can’t really recall who said it but I know that there is this thing about cash.

It is tricky. It is almost as though there is this spirit that follows money around. Once cash is mentioned everyone sits up. And it doesn’t matter how wealthy they already are.

    EVERYBODY, always wants more money.
