Structure of the NRCS

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has 37 Branches, in all the 36 states of the Federation, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). These Branches are each run by a Branch Secretary. All the Nigerian 774 Local Government Areas have Divisions within NRCS. The Divisional Secretaries are in charge of these Branches. This is what gave rise to the popular expression: ‘The Nigerian Red Cross lives wherever you live’.

The NRCS also has smaller detachments made up of around 30 volunteers; in contrast to the Divisions.  A Commandant is in charge of these detachments. The Commandants at the Detachments report to the Divisional Secretaries. The Divisional Secretaries are responsible for reporting to the Secretary-General of the NRCS, while Branch Secretaries are accountable to The Secretary-General.
